I have a case of plantar fasciitis in my left foot and now have some corrective orthotics that I wear in any shoe I put on my feet. My golf shoes are Icons and Dry Joys and even with the orthotics and riding in a cart my left heel is very sore after a round of golf. According to my Fit Bit I am still walking about 4 miles when using a cart. The last time I had plantar fasciitis was 16 years ago and it took about 9 months to get well. With the new orthotics I am hoping I will be well in a couple of months. My question, what golf shoe is the most comfortable to those who have had this painful foot condition ? Right now the most comfortable shoe with my issue is a pair of New Balance 990 athletic shoes which are nor really ideal for golf. I was thinking that the FJ Hyperflex would be a great shoe. Help !

Superfeet green insoles. I too was struggling with this a year ago. My orthopedist suggested these insoles with a heavy dose of stretching. Hope it gets better cause it sure is uncomfortable!

I dealt that awful painful foot condition in both feet. I wore the Contours. Took more than a couple of months to correct the issue. I did exercises every night and wore special boots at night when I slept that kept my feet in a level steady position. Had special inserts for my golf shoes and another pair for my dress shoes. With the prescription inserts, I was able to walk and play golf. Bases on experience, I believe the DryJoy Tours or Contours would be better for the condition or even the new Pro SL. My Contours got me thru some rough times. Been there and done that and want to wish you the best of luck. FJ is a good shoe for your condition because of it's solid foundation.

You need a solid foundation shoe with a good arch. The prescription inserts will ensure that you get that additional support. Daily exercises with the stretch bands as prescribed by the doctor. My specialist put me on a regiment and I followed his directions and I have not had any problems since. That inflammation was a killer.

I have two pairs of the FJ Freestyle shoes. Most comfortable shoes I've owned. Really close to a regular shoe. I also own s pair of the spikeless superlites and they too are extremely comfortable. The new DryJoy SL also look very comfortable. Probably going to be my next shoe purchase.
  8. Have you tried any of the remedies for your condition. I used a small red ball that had knobs on it that i could massage my foot with or the sock that you wear at night that helps stretch out the PF. I also used a frozen water bottle as a rolling device for for foot, helped with inflammation.
FJ Freestyle and Hyperflex are the two that i wear and have had the most relief from.

    Good luck....

    carl,

Can't really help you on shoes, but do have a recommendation. I was able to find a masseuse (person who does massages) who was able to massage the tendon in my arch and heel that was causing my plantar fasciitis. 2 sessions 3 weeks apart.

Its been pretty decent ever since I got the treatment. Good Luck
  10. The first thing is don't rely on your shoes. 10 - 15 minutes stretching daily will get rid of it much quicker, certainly worked for me. Try these;

Hi Carl. Sorry to hear about your situation. I too have had it in the past, and it is not fun. Regarding shoes, I own a pair of Hyperflex and they are an amazing shoe. They feel like rock climbing shoes in the way that they form around your foot! I would suggest that you give them a try in the store and see how you like them. The only other suggestion would be getting a podiatrist to fit you with a custom pair of orthotics.

Wishing you all the best and a speedy recovery.

I'm a huge fan of the Hyperflex and they may do the trick for you. I have three pair. I am blessed enough to not have PF, but the orthotics I use fit into Hyperflex well. Good luck.

    Carl,

Sorry to hear about your heel pain. Are you doing other things for your plantar fasciitis other than just wearing orthotics?

That is a good bandaid but doesn't really get to the root of the problem most of the time. I suggest stretching you calf out multiple times a day. Other good things are rolling a tennis ball or frozen water bottle on the bottom of the foot.

These things will help speed up your recovery time.

    Good luck!

I would recommend hopping over to the FootJoy Community - there are some FJ ambassadors and staff over there that really know their stuff and could provide significant insight and counsel.

    Good Luck

i had plantar fasciitis 3 years ago. i found that as long as i got the right with in Foot Joy, i didn't have a problem. I've had contours, hydrolite, contour casual and just bought hyperflex which is my new favourite shoe. Played 5 rounds in 5 days in october with them and they didn't have a feel of needing to be broken in.

my feet loved me for it

I have consistent issues with my
Left foot for a few years now. Through a lot of experiment, what works for me is a shoe that provides more support. The footjoy dryjoy tour and adidas tour boosts are the best for me. Good luck with your recovery.
  17. I feel your pain... I too have struggled with this for years off and on. I have found The New Balance brand of footwear for work and casual offers the best fit. The extra wide 4E shoes offer me more comfort than others wide choices. Also they hold up well when wearing professional orthotics. I will be adding the New Balance shoe line to my golf gear. Also wearing a doctor prescribed night boot has helped with morning pain from plantar fasciitis. Good luck!

    From the FootJoy site:

For people who have been diagnosed with Plantar Fasciitis we strongly recommend consulting your Podiatrist for their recommendations before selecting a shoe. But in our experience in fitting golfers, we suggest you look for shoes with:
    Firm heel support
    Strong arch support
Minimal midsole torquing (midsole is unable to twist or bend)
Flex only at the ball of the foot
Secure lacing (a BOA lacing system might be optimal)
We would suggest trying ICON Black , FJ ICON , or DryJoys Tour.

Sorry to hear that you're suffering from it, it's absolutely no fun at all. I deal with it much of least year.

As for shoes, I don't think there is any FJ shoe that will do you wrong. However, you mention the Hyperflex, and I'll admit I leaned on those the most when my foot was really bothering me. I really appreciated the stability. Hopefully, they'll help you as well.
  21. Unfortunately, I am in the same situation as you for over three years now. It is at the point where I have it in BOTH my feet and I am unable to walk 18 holes unless I take a cart...still a challenge as you pointed out.

I have tried virtually every pair of recent FJ golf shoes and here are my findings: (please keep in mind I am 265lbs and 6'-6" tall so performance for smaller people may be different but is probably very close), Please keep in mind I have removed the insole and replaced it with my orthotic in each case. I have custom orthotics however over the counter work well as well depending on your situation, some are made slimmer which I would not recommend if your plantar situation is severe. I have only reviewed CURRENT FJ Models below, more info on each can be found at www.footjoy.com then click on "shoes".

    Spiked Shoes:

    1. MOST COMFORTABLE: FJ Freestyle; Best all around shoe for orthotics since it has a deep fit. Also feels wider than other styles so accomodates the extra width some orthotics require. Very comfortable shoe all the way around but lacks extra stability if needed.

    2. MOST STABILITY: FJ ICON and FJ ICON BLACK; these shoes work ok with orthotics however the footbed is not deep enough if you have mid to high arches in your orthotics at least in my case.

    2. BEST OVERALL PERFORMANCE: FJ Hyper Flex, FJ DNA and FJ Dry Joys Tour; these both provide plenty of room in the shoe for orthotic as well as provide great stability and comfort. The design is also traditional enough to look great but not be as athletic in appearance as the FJ Freestyle. I prefer the look of the Hyper Flex and Dry Joys Tour the best IMHO.

    Spikeless Shoes:

    1. MOST COMFORTABLE and BEST All AROUND: FJ Pro/SL; Plenty of room in footbed plus a slightly wider fit to accomodate the orthotic. Great traction and feel great on the course especially in and out of golf carts.

I hope this helps...it has definitely required me to have a big adjustment to my footwear.

    Good Luck!
    Chris

Might be an easier question to have answered over at the FootJoy forums.
But you could always try the Contour Casuals, they are very easy on the feet.
