I'm having issues with my grip size. Some is experimentation, but a lot centers around inconsistent grip sizes even though the specs are supposedly the same. Let me explain.

Old DCI 962 irons: Golf Pride Std Tour Velvet w/2 wraps (+1/32)

New MB irons: Titleist Std Tour Velvet w/3 wraps (+3/64). I went with the extra wrap as an experiment.

909D3 Driver: Titleist Std Tour Velvet w/2 wraps (+1/32). Now re-gripped with midsize Golf Pride Tour Velvet.

Here's the strange part. If you look at the specs, the DCI irons and the original 909D3 grip size should be the same. However, the 909D3 grip size was much smaller. So small, that I had a difficult time holding onto the club. I couldn't hit the damn thing with any consistency.

The MB grips feel slightly smaller than the DCIs even though the MBs have one more wrap. In theory, the Titleist and the Golf Pride grips are supposed to be the same. Correct? If so, how can the MBs be smaller?

The new midsize grip feels more than 1/64" larger than my MB irons. I thought the difference between standard and midsize grips is 1/16". Am I correct? What I'm seeing is with the midsize grips my middle and ring fingers are just touching the thumb pad on my left hand. However, with the MB grips (in theory only 1/64" smaller), my thumb pad covers about half of the nail on my middle finger.

What is the deal? How do I ensure getting a correct and consistent grip size? Does it all depend on the tape used? It seems to be a crap shoot right now.

Not 100% sure but shafts can be different sizes and the multi compounds are .600 cores were the ate Titleist tour velvet is usually .580. So you would need an extra wrap under the multi compound to make it the same as the Titleist. Either way the only way to get them exact is to use digital calipers and measure each different shaft.

For the irons, the shafts are all the same. Even my woods have the same core size. I'm thinking a lot has to do with what tape the shop uses. Like you said, a "a couple of extra wraps" means nothing unless you know the tape used. Therefore, I will switch to using calipers and actual sizes.
