    fort mcmurray,

    Hey guys,

I just got back from the Bob Vokey Tour Experience wedge fitting, which was amazing! As I figured, I now will be gaming 4 wedges, PW, 51,55 and 59. Which leaves me to remove a club from my long game.

    I currently have 712 CB's 4-pw, 3 iron 712u and 913HD 20* steel x100 (only put one in the bag a time), png Anser 17*, which I want to keep, png Anser 3 wood. I am a 3 Handicap

This is what I am looking for- a 4 iron that will be a little for forgiving then my CB and will go a little farther to decease the gap between it and my 17* Hybrid (225 carry) and 5 iron (195 carry)

So my question is...Which club is longer and more forgiving AP2 4 iron or the 712U 4 iron, and more versatile for my bag set up? I am open to other suggestions also. I only want to buy 1 or 2 new clubs this year...I blew by golfing budget on my new wedges.

BTW- I know getting fitting is the best answer but not all fitters have 4 irons. Looking for answers from people who have hit both.

    Thanks

    Jay

Have you given any thought to another hybrid. The new 915h come in a 21* and a 24* loft and are awesomely forgiving. It has a nice high flight and you can always dial in the distance more by increasing the loft to 25.5 which might make it closer to what you are looking for. This might be another option. More and more golfers are going to the hybrids. With your low handicap you might try the hd, but it does have a lower trajectory. Food for thought.

I have considered it. I prefer an look and feel of an iron and my dispersion and distance control are more consistent with an iron also. I can hit the 4 iron no problem, just looking for a little more forgiveness and distance then what I have from my CB.

I would go AP2 or even look at AP1 (a lot more forgiving...); 712U may be tougher to hit off the deck.

  5. MY 712U compared to my AP2 4 iron goes similar distance however it launches higher slightly.  I opted though to get a more forgiving shot pattern to use a hybrid instead.  IMHO

I have the 3 and 4 in 712u and absolutely love them. I don't like AP2s much or get along with most hybrids but would love a 915h 2 hybrid after hitting one recently and it has changed my mind about getting the 712u 2 iron I was going to get. I play the 712CBs also and would probably play a 712u 5 iron if they made one. Hope that helps.

If your looking for forgiveness Id go with an AP1 4 iron.

As Chris said I went with the 712U because of the slightly higher ball flight. I also like the look and feel, and shot consistency I get using it off the tee on short par 4s, or tight fairways. In my set up it is a little longer than the traditional iron.

    Thanks for all the replies

I do own the 3 iron in the 712U and like it a lot, especially off the tee box for tight tee shots.

I think the 4 iron in the 712U will fit the best in my bag especially after a few of you described it having a "higher ball flight" and being "slightly longer", which is ideal as I find a larger gap between my longest iron and hybrid and 3 wood.

The 712u 4 iron is really, really good.
