I have a set of DCI 981 irons (which have the same specs as AP1). I had them fitted with a lie board and the angles were bent to match the specs listed here. The 5-GW all hit perfectly straight, although I do choke a small amount for them to hit cleanly (the 5 iron is 62* with a shaft length of 38 1/8" and the PW is approx 35.75 with lie angle of 64.5). I had been having some difficulty hitting the 4 iron cleanly. I also have a set of Eye 2 yellow dot irons that hit dead straight and they are about 1/2" shorter than the Titleists; an eyeball shows them about 1/2 degree more upright. They're in the process of reshaft. I took the 4 iron to the fitter and had him shorten it to standard length (38 1/4") and change the lie angle to 61.5 (I put a Winn Excel RF midsize grip to compensate for the two point swingweight loss). This is also consistent for what a Eye 2 Yellow Dot iron should be. I hit the ball cleanly with the 4 iron but with a small fade or about 5 yards right - consistent with the club being 1/2 degree flat. Would an AP1 4 iron with a standard length of 38.25 and lie angle of 62 deg be consistent for someone who is 6'1" and WTF of 35.5"? Most charts say I should be a degree upright.

For some odd reason, the club flattened itself. I had it rebent to 61.5 and did a lie board check and the scuff marks are centered. Still, nonetheless, the original question of an AP1 4 iron having a lie angle of 62 with a length of 38.25 be consistent with someone being 6'1" and a WTF of 35.5".

I don't think the answer is as black and white as your height and wrist to floor measurements. Your swing will determine much more about the length and lie of your clubs. For what it's worth, my measurements are about the same as you and my AP2s are 2* upright and 1/4 long. Your best bet is to go to a certified fitter and let his or her trained eyes tell you what you need.

    Lou,

Our standard lie angle for an AP1 4 iron is 61* with a length of 38.50".  We also don't use a wrist to floor measurement to determine length and lie angle.  We will determine that off the consistency of on-center hits and ball flight/lie board measurements.  As mentioned above, working with a certified Titleist Fitter will help to determine proper length/lie, but it sounds like you are on the right track as far as correcting your ball flight with lie angle adjustments.

I've got the 4 iron at 38.25 with a lie angle of 61.5 and pretty much hit it straight (I don't hit a 4 or 5 iron as well as the rest, so I use a 5H). Everything else is spaced 1/2 degree down to the 9 iron (at 64 deg). What I did with the 6-9 is cut 1/2" and change the grip to Excel RF (will do the 5 when I buy another grip) after finding out that I hit the ball a bit cleaner choking down a little bit. I took the 9 out today at the park after doing a tweak and was hitting some of the best 9 irons I've hit in a long time. The P and W are untouched and hit OK but I think a shaft length of 35.5" will be golden for full golf shots (I'll leave that adjustment to my go-to fitter since 1/4" is a bit short for using a tubing cutter).

I had the P and W set to match the length and lie angle of my Vokey 54-11 (35.25 and 65). So far so good. The 7-9 hit very well. I finished the 5 iron last nite. Will have to re-evaluate the 4-6 irons vs the 5H.

The 6 iron hits very solid now.

It looks like I'll have to bump the lie angles 1/2 deg upright on the 5-9 irons to match the 1/2" cut I did. I've been having a bit of a shootout between the DCI 981s and Ping Eye 2 yellow dot irons. I'm smoking the yellow dots right now. DCIs are doing OK but tend to hit slightly right. The wedges are golden, as is the 4 iron (it also matches the calculated yellow dot lie angle).

The DCI 981 irons are at standard length and +1/2 deg from the specifications listed in the club archive. They are also pretty close to Eye 2 Yellow Dot iron specs (the 9 and PW are 1/2 deg flatter than the Eye 2); granted the spacing between clubs on the Eye 2 is .75 deg.
