On a hot Sunday, August 2012 summer day in the North Fork of Long Island at the Robert Trent Jones, Jr. designed Long Island National CC, with a 2 club cross wind,Ihit a blind shot over the 156 yard 11th hole water to an elevated green. The wind required a perfectly placed 6 iron...with apparently one bounce on the green into the hole. From the tee box it wasn't possible to see the ball's final resting spot as we were hitting over the water and a sand trap...and the pin placement was such that any balls near the hole wasn't possible to be seen.
Upon arrival at the green, it wasn't clear if the ball rolled off the rear of the green, as there was a slope away from the pin. After a few minutes of searching for the ball off the green, I had the idea to check the cup...and, even though the shot felt great from the tee, the surprise of finding the ball in the hole was better!
After 50+ years of chasing the little white ball around every conceivable course in the US and Europe, I've booked 2 aces within the last 2 years! Onto the next!
