I'm still playing 714 AP-1s, which have lofts similar to the 716s. I play the same set-up you have listed and I play 52 & 56 degree wedges. It's a set-up that works well for me.
I would suggest though that you work with a fitter to see what combo of wedges mates up the best for you.

You and me are on the same wavelength. This is exactly my AP1 setup. It works great. I have just about every wedge loft you can think of in my garage and have tried numerous combinations. Your setup is ideal. The W wedge is like a older Pitching Wedge (47-48 deg) and your 52 is great way to gap your sand wedge. All you have to do now is to go out make a ton of birdies.

Hi Paul!
Most sets of irons are in succession/progression of 4 degrees between each irons from short to long as you probably already knew. So if your set of iron's most lofted piece is (say at) 47°, ideally the next should be a 51°.
This is the part where you could either test it out for yourself or sign up for a Titleist Thursday fitting to see which club degree of loft you will benefit from the most as it's paired with your set- which I would recommend.
If standard lofts are at 50° it's a smaller gap between and 52° is wider- have the Titleist pro fitter help you out and talk it through with him/her. I think that's best.

I have the 52 in my AP1 716's and then went with 56 & 60 SM6 Vokey wedges. Still might get a 52 Vokey but have not decided yet.

The PW is 44 degrees - either a 50 or a 52 bent to 51, based on a fitting - the 52 bent to 51 will reduce the bounce. And the 56. So many grinds, so little time.

When you look at wedge differences from a numerical standpoint , your math seems sensible in theory. In practice it does not add up. Paul and myself have the 716 AP1 "W" gap wedge which has 47 deg loft. My fitter originally put me in a 50, and 54 bent to 55, and a 60 deg (5 degree gaping), all SM6s. After bringing these wedges home and using these wedge extensively outsoors it turns out that the W wedge and 50 deg SM6 did not give me a wide enough distance gap in the real world. The 55 deg wedge turns out that it hit to much like a gap wedge (it much was longer than my previous 56 deg SM4 wedge distance hitting it full swing) more so than a real sand wedge. Upshot was I sold off the new 50, and 55 deg SM6 clubs. I put my old 56 SM4 back in the bag. I did keep my SM6 60 deg LOB though. I learned a valuable lesson with this fitting session. I will never trust another fitting using a Flightscope indoor off mats to determine what a good fitting for gapping distances should be. From now on I will only be fitted hitting outdoor off real grass because the 2 methods (i.e., indoor off mats with Flightscope/Trackman versus outdoor off grass with wind and humid air) produce different results. I've learned that It is more important to see real world ball flight results and not rely upon computer video game simulation. My Titleist Flightscope wedge/hybrid/irons fitting/experience was a big disappointment. It has turned me into an old-school Luddite.

I also game the 716 AP1s but I went from 6-PW, then the first gap wedge at 47 degrees. I had the misfortune of breaking the shaft in the 47w and I decided to go with a Vokey SM-6 46-8 that I had bent up to the 47 (to keep the gapping at 4 degrees) and this changed the bounce to 9 degrees. After that I have a Vokey SM-5 at 52-12 that I had bent down to 51 degrees (again to keep the gapping at 4 degrees) and this changed the bounce to 11 degrees. From there I have a Vokey SM-6 56-10 sand wedge that I play as is. Besides the lofts, you should also consider the bounce based on your swing style and the course conditions that you play most often. Through the years I have determined that 10 degrees of bounce works best for my game. This made the adjustments in lofts to keep those gaps at 4-5 degrees and also brought the bounces (9,10,&11 degrees) right where I like them. I balance my set of 716 AP 1's with a 52, 56 and 60 degree wedges. I'm 68 years old and the short game is increasingly important.

I do a Vokey Sm? in 56 and 60 because I play in Florida. Bermuda rough often "asks" for a 60... bent/rye is different. Plus I find myself short-sided quite a bit (pin seeking?) and need the spin!

I had several vokey wedges. I would hit them and they really never felt really soft when I would hit the ball off the face. Went to a forged wedge and totally changed my game. Ball felt softer and more control off the face. I wish the Vokey wedges were forged they would be so much better. I do play Titleist 695 MB irons which have great feel. Love the NXT Tour ball much better than the PRO V1

52° & 56° are a good place to start. The most important aspect to keep in mind while picking wedges is your distance gaps. If you are ok with a 56° and can make all the shots necessary around a green then pick a "gap" wedge that will fit in between a full PW & full 56°. Just because the degrees on your wedges are all 4 degrees apart doesn't mean ball flight & carry distances will fit into your short game needs. Best bet is to find your local Certified Titleist fitting PGA Professional (like me ) and have your wedge distances tested. Once the distances are figured out your PGA Pro will discuss how the bounce of the wedges picked will help you get through the turf conditions relative to how you deliver the club into impact. Only then will you have the right equipment & more importantly the cofindence to hit the shots needed to take your game to the next level.

I went to the Vokey website and wen with their recommendation a 52 and 58 seem to be working for me I have the AP1 6-w1

My PW. 48o and 52o are all part of my AP1 set....The only Vokey wedge I use is my 58o (green-side bunkers and as a lob wedge). I wanted the same shafts in as many clubs as possible....this set up has worked very well for me.
