I was recently invited to my friends home course to play a bank holiday evening round. A very nice course which has hosted open qualifying for the past 5 years (the Hesketh, Southport UK. The previous night I had drank a little too much and was on the fence about actually playing that day with the hang over. Anyway, I played! We got to the second hole, only playing 150 yards on the day, elevated tee and elevated green, no bunkers, no real traps, but if you miss the green you’re down a steep embankment in deep rough. The pin was middle yardage but very much on the right hand side, not ideal when your shot shape is a draw. The wind was also pushing to the left. Anyway, I aimed a fair bit right, so much so that if the draw/ wind didn’t move the ball I’d be short sided down the really steep bank. I selected a little 9 iron from my set of T100 that I’ve recently been fitted for. Struck the ball beautifully, high and floaty, the wind caught it, the ball landed just short of the middle yardage pin, 1 bounce and trickled into the hole, as perfect as you can get. The crowd went wild! Ball used was a 2023 Pro V1. Mark from Southport. 2 handicap
