Hi there! My name is Gary Sumner from Virginia Beach, VA. I had a friend tell me that sometimes companies will send out something to those who got a hole-in-one with their equipment and/or golf ball. A quick backstory, I’ve been golfing on and off for 40 years but more consistently the last 20. My go-to group has always included my twin brother and my son (and one time Marc Leishman). My son and brother both have registered hole-in-ones at different points in their lives. We lost my brother, Barry, about four years ago to COVID. The loss has been very difficult, but I find solace in playing golf with his clubs (AP2) and sometimes his orange Titleist hat. Wednesday, the 27th of August, I played a round at Red Wing Golf Course with some of my fellow retired firefighters. The 16th hole was a 134-yard par 3. With my brother’s 8 iron, I hit the shot about 8 feet from the pin and watched it zip back to the hole for my first-ever ace. The range of emotions was overwhelming, mostly because I wish my brother was there with me to see it. But in his orange Titleist hat, with his AP2 8 iron, I absolutely knew he was there with me. Whatever you guys normally send for hole-in-ones will be something that will always remind me of just how special this day was for me.
