I've been golfing for 25+ yrs and I finally hit a HIO! It happened at Los Serranos North Course in Chino Hills. Hole #17: 160 yds; 7 iron; Titleist AVX (my favorite golf balls).
I knew I hit it pure off the tee and it was tracking toward the hole, but the sky was kind of hazy and nobody in our group saw where it ended up, but from our vantage the ball was nowhere to be seen, including off the green.
After driving our carts to the green, the anticipation began to build, and I grabbed my phone and started recording as my friends approached the pin. When they saw the ball in the hole and confirmed it was in, I thought fpr sure they were just joking so I kept yelling "shut up, shut up!" That is, until I reached the hole and verified it myself.
Oh what a feeling! I went bezerk as I was experiencing an out of body experience. It felt like I was dreaming. I was on cloud 9. After what felt like a very long celebration, we finally walked off the green (special thanks to the group behind us for patiently waiting; I'm sure they had an idea about what just happened).
The next hole was the final hole #18. Of course I had honors but I was so emotionally drained. I ended up hitting the worst drive of the day, whiffing on a chip shot and ended shooting a triple bogey, with a final score of 82. Normally I'd be upset but on this day I was just full of joy
. Supremely thnkaful to God for allowing me to experience my very first HIO.
*Special acknowledgment to Frank, JY, and Peter for being there to witness and celebrate with me. Achieving a HIO is not as meaningful without the company of good friends.
