I have 3 raw wedges - 46, 52 bent to 53, and a 60. They are great clubs but lately I am wondering if my next purchase of wedges should be raw or not. I consistently have to swap out my ProV1X for a new ball mid round because my wedges leave rusty groove rips or tears in the cover of the ball. Obviously my chrome 718 MBs dont do this to the ball so I am wondering if these rips in the cover happen with all new wedges since youll generally pinch the ball a little more with wedges and short irons than you do with longer irons with more of a sweeping swing. Has anyone played both raw or plated and have any insight or experience with both and have a preference? I am going from a 3 wedge setup in the near future to a 4 wedge setup in 46, 50, 56, 60 to dial in my gapping at the bottom of my bag and removing my 3i to make room so just looking for some conversation and feedback. I know some pros still play raw wedges but they also get new balls by the hundreds for free.

Try using a chrome tour or z star and see what happens. Unfortunately that's the price we pay for compressing shots and spin.
Being raw has nothing to do with it. I've shredded balls in one swing with my Tour Chrome 46° Vokey.
