I would simply love for Titleist to make the •Pro V1 available again, or the newest proto ••Pro V1.
I do love the current model Pro V1 for the way that it feels; However, it simply spins too much and launches to high for me. There are definitely other options, but nothing that preserves some of those crucial feel components of the Pro V1. AVX just doesn't feel right.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, I have always loved the Pro V1x feel, so I am not necessarily chasing after a buttery soft feel in the Pro V1. I just need to find some middle ground with trajectory and spin.
I have done a lot of testing on trackman with the new model year Pro V1 — I have confirmed and re-confirmed that the new model year (at least for my impact conditions), is spinning more and launching higher. I also get +5 mph ball speed with driver, which is amazing! But there are days here in Texas where the wind is killing my shot on the fall because the apex is too high for my stock cut.
I have also noticed that wedges aren't reacting on the greens like I'm used to — especially on days with dry and hard greens. They check fractionally less, and the descent angle is up. I think this is due to mostly to higher launch and spin. Wedges are hanging in the air for an extra second or two, which is contributing fractionally to spin decay. Coupled with the steeper descent angle, the ball is landing sort of dead. I'm not as able to predict where the ball is going to end up after it checks, and it's been throwing me off.
This wasn't scientific by any measure, but I did recently compare the new Pro V1 to the old Pro V1x on the course. I hit about 10 shots each into a green from 95 yards. The 2022 model Pro V1x had a very consistent apex, and it had a consistent check and backspin on the green.
The 2024 Pro V1, however, was slightly less predictible in terms of apex. The ball just kind of hangs in the air longer. In my opinion, due to hanging in the air that fraction longer, it wasn't reacting consistently on the green.
I definitly like the feel of the 2024 Pro V1 better, but those little inconsistencies are driving me nuts.
