Lie angle off on brand new set

I've had my new MB 710s for about a month now, and they're great. However, I've starting to question the lie angle because I'm seeing more draws than I expected. My specs were supposed to be +1" and 1° upright (number 05VGU). However, I was at the shop this morning ordering a couple of Vokeys using the serial number, and the pro thought the lie of my 9 looked wrong -- I happened to bring the 9 in to verify the serial number. Anyway, he put the 9 in the machine and saw a 66° lie. That's 2° over the MB specification for a 9 iron. Hmm... These clubs are barely a month old.

Now, the question I have is whether this is a mistake in my order or could it be a difference in how Titleist measures lie angles? How can I verify my specs against the number stamped on the clubs? Given that my clubs are 1" long, does Titleist adjust lie angles for length?

I guess I need to go back to a lie board and see where I'm at now. I have to admit it is a little annoying given I already paid for and had an advanced iron fitting at a Titleist fitter. I expected to get what I was measured for.

    Yeah, something doesn't seem right.

I would have your entire set remeasured to make sure you got that you ordered.

How do you like your MB710s other wise?

It's a bit disappointing to have to remeasure the clubs, given that I just had them custom made. Otherwise, I'm loving them. I am struggling a little bit, getting used to the new length and lie (old 962 DCIs were 1 3/4" long and 4° upright). Essentially, my previous set of irons were incorrectly fitted, and I molded my swing to fit over the years. This time I should have it correct, but I catch myself going back to my old ways once in a while. My swing misses have always been thin/fat vs. toe/heal, so cavity weighting doesn't help me. There is nothing like catching a MB pure, and I appreciate the feedback when I do happen to miss a bit.

Personally, I don't understand the flat out fear of muscle backs. Maybe it's because I'm in my 40s, and it wasn't that long ago that everyone played blades because that's all there was. Many of my playing buddies are not any better now with game improvement irons.

Irons and wedges are so soft nowadays, you should expect some fluctuation.  66* is actually two up from standard and 1 up from your preferred settings.  I would definitely check the entire set, and check them routinely.

I figured things would change periodically, but I didn't expect 3-4 hits would change the lie. These clubs are only a month old, and it happens that I don't end up hitting the measured club (9 iron) that much on my league course. How often should I expect to have to check -- yearly, monthly?

It will change slightly over time due to impact but not that fast ?

I encourage players to check their irons/wedges, especially if something seems amiss, after every 20 rounds.  So for most players that go once a week...that's about twice a year give or take a few weather issues.

Sounds like I will be dropping my clubs off to be checked. That's really disappointing considering I just got them.

Hi Dave,  Can you please give us a call at Team Titleist 1-888-TITLEIST.  To standardize builds,  we built to requested lie angles which would be one up from standard  ( 65°) on your 9 iron regardless of length.   Due to the length of your club, the effective lie angle will be 2° more upright than the measured lie angle.
