WATNEY SECURES BUICK INVITATIONAL WITH TITLEIST

Titleist Ambassador Nick Watney birdied two of the final three holes to claim the 2009 Buick Invitational on the US PGA Tour by a single shot at Torrey Pines. Watney’s second career title continued Titleist’s 100% win record on the 2009 US PGA Tour schedule, as he followed the successes of Geoff Ogilvy, Zach Johnson, Pat Perez and Kenny Perry who have already trusted the performance and playability of the Titleist Pro V1 or Pro V1x to claim victory this year.

Watney shot a final round four-under par 68, to finish with a total of 11-under par 277, and finish at the top of the leaderboard which saw Titleist ball players claim eight of the top-10 places. Titleist was the most played golf ball at the Buick Invitational as 65 % of the field put their trust in the superior performance of the legendary Pro V1 family; this was more than four times its nearest competitor who had 25 players. Of the 102 players who trusted a Titleist golf ball at the Buick Invitational, 32 played the New 2009 Pro V1x and 22 played the New 2009 Pro V1.

Watney trusted Titleist product from tee to green for his second PGA Tour victory and his equipment included the Pro V1x golf ball, 909D2 driver, 909F2 3-metal, 909H hybrid, AP2 irons, Vokey Design pitching wedge, Vokey Spin Milled sand and lob wedges, and Scotty Cameron Newport Tour putter. Titleist Ambassador Matt Jones finished 5th on 281, while Charley Hoffman continued his great form following his play-off defeat at last weeks’ FBR Open with another strong performance to tie for 7th alongside fellow full-line Titleist player Ben Crane. Titleist also topped the count for irons, wedges and putters at Torrey Pines as Titleist continues to be the standout choice of the leading players on Tour.

Elsewhere, Vance Veazey parred the second hole of an all-Titleist golf ball play-off to win the opening event of the 2009 Nationwide Tour schedule. Veazey beat fellow Titleist golf ball loyalist Garrett Willis after they both finished on a 7-under par total of 273. On the Asian Tour, James Kamte trusted the Pro V1x to secure his maiden title at the Asian Tour International. Kamte closed with a five under par 66 to claim a two shot victory, and increase Titleist’s worldwide win count to 18 for the 2009 season, compared to just 4 for the nearest competitor.

A further victory on the 2009 PGA Tour for Titleist and second career title for full-line Titleist player Nick Watney, combined with the constant flow of worldwide victories for the Titleist Pro V1, prove once again, that the game’s elite continue to opt for the matchless performance of Titleist.
