I need help in picking wedges. I use a 56 degree wedge for full shots, chipping and out of the sand. I have a steep swing. I use a 60 degree wedge for full shots and chipping. I never open my wedges up or hit flop shots. Depends on the amount of bounce you want/need. For the 60* the K grind is great, especially if you are not manipulating the face. Good luck!

RE: Help choosing

I would consider a K, F or S...they are specifically set up for Diggers like yourself. I like them all! You should consider trying them to see which sets up best for your game...The K is a good place to start IMHO

RE: Help choosing

Hi Walter,
Wedge selections have become much more interesting in the past decade with the emergence of so many choices for the recreational golfer.

I replaced my wedges three summers ago ... I originally had 2 wedges in my bag. However, I decided to go for a proper Titleist wedge fitting and was extremely pleased with how comprehensive the process was.

We explored different shafts, we explored the various grinds and wedge gaps and ultimately arrived at a set of three wedges that were best matches for my swing, (ie: steep swing/shallow sweeper swing) and with the various grinds. Also, you will get to look at/try different bounce options too.

So given your ideas about what you want the wedges to do I would suggest a fitting with a certified Titleist fitter.

This process will allow you to explore all of the different grinds, gaps, etc. to best fill out your bag. As for me, I know play the S-grind in my 60 and 56 degree wedges and the F-grind in my 50 degree wedge. The S-grind allows me to also open the club up nicely for softer shots around the greens too ... so there is some versatility there if you choose to use it.

All the best in your process of selecting wedges -- regardless, the Vokeys are recognized as the "gold standard" in wedges.

RE: Help choosing

You know, my best recommendation to you for the very best results would be to go see a Titleist fitter. Each of us are different. I gave my 60* away to a friend and SM6 56.14 F grind is the highest loft I carry in my bag and then it goes down to a SM5 54.08, S grind, and then SM6 50.08 F grind. That 54.08 is getting ready to go out when my 716 AP1 W arrives. My SM6s match my new 716 AP1s in shafts and lie. The SM5 was a 56.10 and my fitter changed it for me to play around with. But going to a fitter is your best bet because all we will do is confuse and we are not the experts. Data is needed to make the call you need. With respect.
