Travel Bag: soft or hard?

I haven't traveled with clubs in a long time, but I have an opportunity coming next month. In the past I used a simple canvas bag with my own improvisations - like lots of towels for padding and a homemade version of a "stiff arm" to protect the shafts.

I like my clubs much more these days :) and want better protection. I assume a hard case would provide better protection, but could be a challenge to fit into a rental car. Is it safe to travel with today's soft travel cases like the Titleist club glove travel cover?

I’ve used a Club Glove case for both air travel and shipping clubs via ShipSticks without any issues. Remove club heads, protect the shaft tips, provide plenty of padding with towels and bubble wrap, use a stiff arm device. That being said, I have more recently purchased an SKB hard case for added protection and peace of mind.

portmarnock is the #1 choice. The Island is the #2 choice and #3 is Baltray and #4 would be Royal Dublin.

I’ve got the big 70 coming up and my wife suggested a trip to Ireland to celebrate the milestone. I’m second generation with all 4 of my grandparents being from West Cork. I’ve never been to Ireland so it’s definitely a bucket list item.

Any thoughts on where to play and stay in the southwest part of the country? I’m looking for mid tier pricing. I’ll probably play one”bucket list” course.

Just wanted to reply to your post in the event that you receive notifications on your posts. The event in September will be the TT Invitational. If the dates work for you, make sure you register for the event when it opens tomorrow (April 2nd). Historically, this event has been very popular and will likely sell out shortly after registration opens.

Seems like there are less events this year than las year. September 6th event not announced yet but hope it’s a 3 day event. Also I have not seen any events longer than 2 -day is that standard for TT events now?

My 2026 golf calendar is starting to get locked in and I can't wait for all this snow in Northern Virginia to melt. My son is in his senior year of high school and we are taking a father/son golf trip over spring break. Tot Hill Farm, Tobacco Road and then Royal New Kent on the way back to the DMV.

As I'll be an empty nester come September, I've got a Labor Day weekend golf trip to Pinehurst.. #10, #2, Cradle, #4, #1 and #8...

Eric your perspective is awesome, thanks for sharing! I too can't wait to schedule a visit. My brother lives in Mass, so the next time we go and visit, this is my only ask for the trip. My dad is an engineer and also can't wait to check it out.

I'll be sure to bring a fresh new credit card, as I have ZERO self control when it comes to Titleist when I online shop....can't imagine what the looks like in person with special TT gear available...hope you enjoy the trip!

Hi everyone. I am sure there are a ton of these posts but I just wanted to say how excited I am to do this in a couple of weeks! I have read to bring more $$$ than you think you will need as well as a credit card with plenty of room on it.

Has anyone been recently? I am curious what to expect both for the tour and the shop at the end.

Tobacco Road is my all time favorite. Enjoyed it more than any of the resort courses including no. 2. Most people love it or hate it but it is a fun layout and definitely one you will remember. Grab a spicy dog too at the turn.

Show up and check in with the starter as early as 4:30 AM!

You can also enter the lottery and they draw the names the day before you play.

Traveling in May to St. Andrews to visit my daughter who is studying abroad this semester. It sounds like the courses at St. Andrews rely on the starters to place singles with groups about to go off. So it appears you don't have a great sense of if/when you'll go off. Any tips or insight is appreciated for course selection as a single and how you deal with uncertain tee times & warm-up.

Just remember, you can’t just show up. You have to schedule ahead of time. They are only doing tours on certain days and only a certain amount of people in each tour.

Visited a few months back and highly recommend. Everyone was extremely pleasant and passionate, including every manufacturing floor employee we crossed paths with while in the middle of their workday. Having spent years on the floors of a leather manufactoring plant, it was unbelievable to see how every employee was willing to engage us visitors while they were in full production.

The tour itself is excellent, very informative and interesting. The amount of detail and precision that goes into each Titleist golfball is incredible, as is their quality assurance control. You'll also get a chance to "suite up" and check out processes done in their clean rooms. I wish I remember some of the specifics but the amount of golf balls they produce daily was much more than I would have guessed.

Was there last summer. It was a great experience and the people there are great. But as mentioned they have a small store at the end but a lot of things you will want to take home. So yes bring $$$$

You will probably meet June and your tour guide probably will be Patty. Great people and they do an amazing job at providing an informative and entertaining day. Some places you will be able to take pictures and other places you will not. While the store at the end is not large, it does offer some nice, unique Team Titleist items. Enjoy the day!
