Putter Fitting

I’m a 6 handicap, and a terrible putter. I’m using a Flowback 5.5, and do pretty well with speed on longer putts, but I miss way too many inside of 5 feet, and some are pretty ugly. I have never been fit for a putter, and I think I need to start there before getting any instruction. We have a Club Champions here in town, but I have heard a lot of mixed reviews. There is also a golf shop that I have used, but they don’t have the technology that Club Champions has. Is the technology necessary, or can I get a good fit without it? I’m a bit desperate, and my wife is getting tired of hearing about my bad putting. Thanks

Any chance you love on the West Coast and could get to the Cameron Gallery in Encinitas? I would go there for a fitting which is also a min lesson. You wont regret it!

Looksike velco scratch marks form the cover. THis is why I convert my SC covers to magnets

Hi,

I have no idea how these scratches have appeared on my 9R and they are frustrating. I have checked the head cover and it was all clear. Would Titleist take a look at this if I sent it back?

Scotty Cameron Newport 2 or Squareback 2 (Special or super select)

I switch between Phantom 5.5 and Newport 2 all the time. I'm more precise with my Newport 2. I've already tested the Squareback 2 special and super select but I'm not sure if it's better in the long run. What is your opinion.

I have the had the Phantom 5.5, switched that to the 9.5. I have the Special Select (2021??) Squareback 2. Similar profiles but the Squareback 2 will have a little more toeflow to it.

Love my Squareback 2. I like the sound and feel of the ball coming off the face. It also matches the flow or tempo of my swing than the 5.5 did.

I agree with Jason. Take a couple of putting lessons with some solid practice time around the lessons.

I switched to a spider tour x L neck just over two years ago after years of playing blades. It’s been a great putter in that time, dropped my handicap down to 10 and won a big club competition.

However it’s been misfiring last few weeks and the handicap is starting to creep back up. I’ve also managed to find a 2007 studio style Newport 2 that I’ve always wanted in reasonable condition, so it looks like I’m coming back to my blades for a while.

Hi everyone just was curious if anyone else had gone back to a blade after experimenting with a phantom. I had been using a 9.2r which is beautiful putter, but I seem to have struggled with distance control and shorter putts.

Went back to my Newport 2 and had probably the best putting round I have had in a year yesterday. Needless to say I will sticking my Newport 2 for the foreseeable future, but curious if anyone else in the TT community experienced this also.

I will also throw a couple pictures on here as well ;)

I had been a traditional blade with flange putter user and tried many Phantoms (and Futuras before them). I did find the 5 to be eye-appealing, but it didn't seem to play as well as my Studio Select 2.7 even though the single bend shaft is very similar. I am making an effort to work with the Phantom much more this year to see how or if I am a better putter with this or the 2.7, which earned its way into my bag. Maybe because I rescued it from a used club barrel??

Time will tell if the 5 will stay in the bag, but I will say that I HATE the dual velcro head cover!

I used a Studio Stainless Newport Beach for a long, long time. As greens got faster I noticed I had a harder time with short sliders so I got a Phantom 5.5 because the added weight helped. But then I learned that I putt best with no toe hang so I got a LAB Link. I putt better with it but hate the feel of it so I was very excited when the Phantom 5 OC came out. Unfortunately I find that it behaves more like a classic center shafted putter. If Scotty ever made a zero torque blade I know I’d never putt with anything else!

I grew up using a Newport style putter, so that was really all I knew until a couple seasons ago. I picked up a 2024 Phantom 9 off the rack without putting much thought into it, but honestly I struggled pretty badly with it.

When I tried the new 9.2R, I found the plumber’s neck fit my stroke way better, so I ended up selling my 9 and picking up the 9.2R instead. I still absolutely love the look of a blade, but I find the Phantom to be so much more forgiving — especially now that I can only golf a handful of times a year with two young kids

I wish Scotty Cameron would make a broom stick putter. I've even asked them to give me a price to make one and I get no response. Especially with the success of players like Adam Scott, Akshay Bhatia and Will Zalatoris you'd think they would at least consider it??????

I have 2 phantoms right now, 11.5 and a 5.2, , that I didn't really need, but it was too good a deal to pass up. I am currently using my Super Select Squareback 2, and putting really well with it. I also have a Newport 2+ H22 special, and an older Newport 2.6, but not ready to go back to a true blade jus yet.

I never really struggled with my Phantom 11.5 that was in my bag for the last 2 years, but just a little frustrated not making enough putts. After a 33 putt round, I have gone back to my Super Select Squareback 2, and have been consistently averaging 26-29 putts per round. After a couple weeks of 81s and 82s, now back to 77s and 78s.

Hi - sorry about the scratches. You do have the option to send it back to Scotty in CA - they have a full restoration service as well as paint fills etc. Its pricey and you'll be without the putter for a while, but you can customize it and they can take care of the scratches. The configuration tool is great - give it a look on scottycameron.com. Good luck!

If you didn't catch it the moment you got it, it's not something they will have anything to do with. You could try a Magic Eraser, but they are a light abrasive, so be careful.

Re-shafting 11R OC Putter

Anyone reshaft the 11R OC with graphite, if so is this a .355, .370 or .390 diameter, know Scotty sometimes uses different diameters.

I have a Newport that I always go back to .,have other putters that I use at times including Newport 2,Catalina and a couple of mallets The thing for me is I feel a mallet putter helps me square in to my desired putting line better .When I go back to my Newport putter I always stroke it better

I have always been a blade guy, Newport is my model, bought the first Scotty Cameron newport when it released in mid 90's, still have it, but currently use the Special Select Newport - I tried other models before getting the Special Select newport, but Newport just always worked best for me, and the look is classic. I do have the original Futura from early 2000's 03 I think, but never used it, got it because it was so unique, but kept the Newport in the bag

I've always used a blade putter. Never been fortunate to play a Scotty, but all my putters have been blades. I currently use an old school blade that allows me to put both right and left. Thinking about getting something new, but not sure my game is ready for one.
