Grips

I’m about to order a Phantom 9 through Titleist and looking for some feedback on grips.

I’ve tried the Full Contact (too small) and the Matador (too soft and not great when my hands get a bit wet). Unfortunately, none of these grips are available to try in-store here in Canada.

I’m mainly deciding between the Pistolini Plus and the Pistolero Plus and just looking for some real-world feedback between the two—feel, size, taper, etc.

I know grips are personal, but with no way to test them, I’d really appreciate hearing what others prefer between these two.

I love the Pistolero, when I was trying different grips it felt so natural in my hands. I would wait until you can try a few unless you don’t mind swapping.

Of the two I much prefer the Pistolini for feel, it has a pretty traditional taper and a pistil type upper section. The Pistolero has a very large (front to back) "axe handle" upper section and feels horrible (to me). Both are to heavy (80g +) for my preferred swing weight with a 350g head weight and 34" length

All that said the Cameron grip I game is a Studio Design or Baby T. Others that fit my "like" and swing weigh preference are Iomic classic tour and Super Stroke Pistol tour

The gallery is. a wonderful place. Since it first opened I have been going and it has gone through some updates the last few years including the vault and much more.

I will chime in on a different angle.

Since the pop up items are random throughout the day, some in the morning and some in the afternoon...gotten special LE head covers, bags, putters etc... at various times don't just go and leave ... If you don't get a LE head cover you want come back that afternoon or the next day at a different time.

Also, fittings are amazing. I would highly consider doing one.

Cameron Gallery Experience

Greetings!

I posted this on the travel thread but though I would also post it here.

I wanted to ask for some insight and advice.

For my 40th birthday, my wonderful wife gifted me a plane ticket to San Diego (oddly one-way) to visit the Scotty Cameron Gallery and booked a tee time for me at Aviara Golf Club. Sadly, Torrey was full up.

Has anyone had any recent experiences at the gallery and could provide advice or feedback?

Reviews I have read are rather dated, 2-3 years ago or older.

I’ve never been to CA and I’m very excited! I head that way in a couple of weeks.

Equivalent to Spider X

Hi all,

Huge Scotty fan, had a few over the years and still got my blades. Tried a phantom 5.5 back in 2021 and couldn’t get along with it, but last year gelled with a Spider tour X L neck.

However I miss the feel of my scottys. Tried putting my blades back in and it’s just not gelling with me. What’s a similar putter to my current L neck for toe flow etc? I’ve been looking at Newport two plus, phantom 5.2 and the phantom 9.

There are 3 new mallets coming to the Phantom line in July. If you like the Spider and want to try a Cameron be patient ;)

Just picked up this beauty today. Loving the soft feel of the carbon insert., was surprised in a positive way at the change (had been playing a super select) and loving the new look. Can’t wait to get it play this spring!

I’ve got a studio select I’ve had for about 8 years, still always find myself going back to it. Got myself a phantom 5.5 liked it but still ended up going back blade. Won a TM zero torque spider but just didn’t go well in the bag so gave it to my friend . Might get the phantom back out as prefer the look of it

The TM Spider X and the SC Phantom 11 share some resemblance in terms of head-shape. The L/plumbers neck you play in the Spider is not an option for the Phantom 11 (it is face balanced) the 11.5 slant neck will have more toe flow (like the Spider X L/plumbers neck)

Feel wise the Cameron will be firmer (not insert like the Spider),

I game a Phantom 11 and find is a solid performer....and I would like to try the Spider X as the Aim Path tech is interesting

Need a CT with a minimum 2 year ownership to visit the Vault. The putters in the Vault are more for show as they have museum quality finishes. I personally prefer the Gallery putter fittings compared to L.A..B. Golf in person Quintic fittings. Unfortunately, your allowed access to MOTO putters these days as in the past you could purchase multiple Circle T’s after a fitting. For Vault access you require the putter in hand with you as your purchase history will be looked up. Only 2 Vault access per year.

Hello All! I will be making the Pilgrimage to the Scotty Cameron Gallery store for the first time this April. I was hoping that some of you that have been might be able to provide what your experience was like, the process of potentially booking a fitting, etc. Looking forward to hearing your stories, wisdom, and advice!

Paint fill Commandments

Need some opinions here!

Is it taboo to do custom paint fill on your SC putters that you DO NOT send into the SC Custom Shop?

Feel like it may go against the commandments but I also don't want to be without my putter for upwards of a month from drop off to delivery.

If its done right, doe the Scotty Cameron Community frown upon this?

Do whatever you want with it, but if you’re wanting the “yellow box experience”, maybe just wait until the off-season that we get to experience every December/January up in the north east.

That’s what I tell myself, and then usually don’t think about doing it until Masters Week comes around lol

Made a recent switch from traditional look from my Squareback 2 to the Phantom 11R OC and absolutely love it

Hey Doug,

I went through the same decision recently — debating between a LAB (true zero torque) and the 11R OC (almost zero torque). The 11R OC is basically built for a straight‑back, straight‑through stroke, so it really comes down to what your actual path looks like. If you don’t naturally have that neutral, pendulum‑type motion, it might not be a perfect match… but it’s still worth rolling a few if that’s the direction you want to move your stroke.

What pushed me toward center‑shafted in general was the symmetry at address, the added stability, and how much it cleaned up my directional misses. The head just doesn’t wander.

I ended up choosing the Scotty over the LAB mostly because of feel. The weight difference is small, but the Scotty felt more natural in my hands and a bit more refined — maybe that’s just me. And honestly, it’s not often you can say the Scotty is the cheaper option.

A downside: I wish the Custom Shop had more options… even though I’ll probably never use them anyway.

Phantom 11R OC

Just wanted to come on here and let everyone know that I am very impressed with the 11R OC. I have had a LAB which is good, but the way the 11R OC sets up to me is just better. If anyone is interested in feedback just let me know and I will do my best to answer any questions you have!
