New member here so please excuse me if this has been asked recently, although I have searched and could not find a related thread.

I have recently returned to golfing on a regular basis. While i was away attending school (Broke student life style) i played 1-3 times a year. Before that, while still in high school i would play 40+ rounds a year with a Hcp that floated around 10. I have played the ProV1 since I could swing the club with sufficient speed. During my absence from the game, Titleist launched the AVX. In this time my Hcp has climbed to roughly an 18-20 (Hard to get an accurate gauge on 1-3rds a year) but my swing speed has increased. I swing roughly 105Mph comfortably now and consistently hit a high fade.

I'm curious about everyone's experience with the AVX in comparison to the ProV1 that I typically play. I'm looking for a ball that would provide lower long range spin and a low launch angle as I naturally hit a high ball. Should I stick to the ProV1 or change things up? Thoughts, Opinions and personal experiences welcome.

Swing easy,
Carter.

RE: AVX Vs. Best advice is as above - get a sleeve of V1 / V1x / AVX and LD and try them all on a quiet course one by one. I am a high spin player and settled on AVX/V1 as I couldnt stand the feel of the left dash, however, I did find it went a little further than the prov1.

I would also say, please dont neglect the short game impact too - start there and work back to the tee with whatever ball suits you and your swing best.

Good luck and enjoy!

Switch?

Thinking about switching from prov1 to left dash. Why Play Pro V1x?

Pro V1x is recommended for players who may benefit from higher-trajectory flight, low long game spin with higher short game spin, and firmer feel.

RE: Best ball for High Handicappers?

Try a bunch out. With respect. A dollar saved is a penny earned. Titleist has some quality golf balls as lesser prices that introduce golfers to the game. TruFeel is for players who prefer ultra-soft feel, long distance and consistent greenside spin. $25 a dozen is a respectable prices for a quality golf ball, plus a visit to a local golf pro for a lesson or two. Club head speed is one variable, but so is the amount of spin you apply in your swing. If you are already low spin, low launch, ...probably not. If this were the case - and we can't tell in a discussion, you might do better with the standard X. if your ball flies high and "drops out of the sky" then the Left Dash X would work.

Not to say the V isn't already your best option. Just noting the usual variables. The other alternative is to find a Titleist ball fitting, but a sleeve is a lot easier to find. No one ball offers the best solution for all players.

To note, I'm not anywhere near your golf swing, but the absolute worst Titleist ball for me is the Left Dash. I'm low launch/low spin already.

RE: Anyone done a ball fitting at the new Pinehurst center yet?

I have done two Titleist ball fittings that were at least ten years apart. Given that I really don’t like the feel of the V1x, particularly chipping and putting, and have an 85 mph swing speed, I am wondering if the V1 might be the better option, as I will be able to compress it better on full-shots, and play softer shots around the green. In my opinion if it’s good around the greens and 50 yards and in the ball could already be the best for you. But the best thing to do is test each side by side on course and see which one you like better. The fact is that, as swing speed drops the difference in ball speed between harder and softer golf balls get smaller, so someone with an 80 mph driver speed is probably going to see pretty similar balls speeds off the driver with all golf balls. Another way to look at it is that soft golf balls don't magically generate a ton more ball speed for slow swing speeds... that just not how physics works. At slow swing speeds, since ball speed is going to be pretty similar across all golf balls, distance is then going to come down to how well the spin and trajectory of the ball you pick match what your game needs. If you're someone that hits the ball with a lot of spin, you might get more driver distance out of a soft 2-piece ball because it is low spin. Or maybe you need more spin to keep the ball in the air longer so the V1x might be a better ball. Then, of course, there's wedge and greenside spin, which is definitely going to be lower for 2-piece balls and might be a bigger sacrifice than any possible gain in distance off the tee.

Ball fitting for slower swing golfers

I’ve happily used the X as my ball for the last 7 years. I’m now struggling to get to over 80 mph driver speed (stuff happens as you get older…) Just curious if any low speed golfers have done a serious green to tee comparison of a Pro-V model to either Tour Soft or TruFeel?
My curiosity was raised by a MySpy golf article that listed 2 piece surlyn as the best options for low speed swings. Neither Titleist ball was included. I have time to think about this as all the local courses are closed for the season. As well as my Pro-V ball supply may last well beyond 2025.

RE: Ball fitting for slower swing golfers

I settle for consistency. The day may be a cut or a draw that day so I want o aim accordingly.
Your buddies are just carrying a story that is at least 10 years out of date. The X is definitely firmer than other Titleist balls. The pros will have their preferred windows, but the higher launch and spin is a plus for slower swing golfers. If the golfer can strike the X with fresh wedge groves, then holding a green is improved. Titleist fits more slower swing player to the X than any other ball.

RE: Ball fitting for slower swing golfers

I just did a ball fitting at the Golden Horseshoe in Williamsburg, VA. BTW, I am 73, 6 handicap, 80 mph driver swing, and hit a low draw.
The fitter said I was a classic Prov1x player since I needed all the height and spin I could get. He tried the x, the Prov1, and the avx, and the x was by far the best. This was surprizing since all my compatriots say that the x ball is for long long hitters only.

Worked on the wedges, irons, and hybrids to judge height and descent angle, which was most important. All drivers went the same distance off the driver, so the fitter was not too concerned about that part.

Interesting, he had me try and hit a cut/fade since my normal trackman numbers were low. If I hit it correctly, the cut/.fade was in the optimal range for height, spin, and descent angle. The Titleist fitter was surprized at how much difference that made.

Can I hit that shot at will?

RE: Pro V1 vs V1x

I've personally had higher ball flight with the ProV1X but have better greenside control with the ProV1. It's truly personal preference. Get a couple of sleeves and play what feels best. Also, I know many people who use the X duriing warmer months and switch to the ProV1 in the winter with the colder temps.

RE: UK Virtual Ball Fittings - BOOK NOW

How does this work ?
